Welcome to Healaheart's page describing a Harmonious Classroom's (HC) curriculum. Named  Harmonious Classroom because it was developed to create just that. This is a 12 week program that foster peace, harmony and emotional literacy in grades 1-3. This program was piloted and proven effective within a first grade class. I designed this curriculum with the help of a first grade teacher.  

Many programs in schools teach children skills to curb  problematic behaviors.  Few teach children how to connect with one another or to encourage peace and harmony in the classroom. The increase in violence in our school warrant a closer look at exploring what can be done in the formative years to give children the best possible chance for learning how to get along with each other.  The Harmonious Classroom curriculum facilitates ease and safety.  It contains strategies for conflict resolution for students in grades one through three. 

Teachers who feel exhausted and overwhelmed from day to day struggles will find this work helpful because it addresses the needs of the teachers too. When teachers feel empowered and inspired by a cooperative learning environment, their satisfaction increases. This work is adapted from materials generated from the teachings of Marshall Rosenberg, PhD and others affiliated with the Center for Nonviolent Communication (NVC). The components of NVC consist of observations, feelings, needs and requests thereby doing away with language that is judgmental, demanding, shaming and guilt provoking. Poor communication is replaced by dialog and connection that is compassionate, caring and empathic so natural unfiltered joy of learning can take place.
